Absolutely delicious hot cross buns from Alastair Little's Tavola deli in Notting Hill

How I missed waking up this Good Friday morning to warm buttered Hot Cross Buns - traditional English Easter spiced and fruited buns\ with crosses on top, which are served split, toasted and buttered throughout the Easter period (NB, they're called 'Hot' Cross Buns even if they're served cold).  I can't find them anywhere here in the US, which is a shame as they're great all year round, and make a wonderful kids' snack as they're not too sweet.

The beauties above were photographed on my recent trip to London and so I was able to get my fix.

Here's a recipe, though I can't vouch for it as I haven't had a chance to make any this year.

In the Seattle area, I've seen them out and about here:

PCC Natural Markets were carrying some pre-bagged in their bread isle, and I just finished a fresh one from Columbia City Bakery. I realize it's too early to start your morning with one, but maybe an afternoon pickup would work?

Alki bakery makes them - I have picked them up at Metro Market in West Seattle. They are the only ones I have ever seen in the US where the cross wasn't iced on.

It is really hard to toast them if the cross is iced on, and my favourite way of eating them is toasted with melty butter so I was very excited.
